Mr. Matthew Noyes
United Disability Housing Partnership
29 Stanhope Street
Boston, MA 02116
Dear Mr. Noyes:
Director Jane Gumble has asked me to your members' recent correspondence to Governor Romney asking him to increase funding for the Alternative Voucher Housing Program (AHVP -- Line Item 7004-9030) by $1 million, which would bring the total funding for the program to $4 million.
It is my understanding from your letter that th United Disability Housing Partnership is a cross-disability coalition of groups and organizations dedicated to expanding housing opportunities for low-income and homeless individuals with disabilities. Members of the United Disability Housing Partnership believe that the AHVP is extremely cost effective, relative to the cost of emergency shelter or hospital, nursing home, or other institutional care, a belief that we share, and would like to see the AHVP restored to its original funding level of $4 million.
The Department appreciates your support for the AHVP as a cost effective means of assisting individuals with a disability with housing. However, as you are aware, the fiscal reality of recent years has seen little, if any growth in the program. Your comments will be taken into consideration.
Thank you for you [sic] for taking the time to write and express your interest and concern for the AHVP.
Sincerely,
Carol E. Collins, Director
Bureau of Housing Management
